We say we’ve been to Laos, but really we’ve just been to Don Det four times. Don Det is a part of Laos’ Three Thousand Islands archipelago, a beautiful cluster set in the Mekong River. To get there you’ve got to take an overnight bus, another small bus, pay the river mafia and then catch a long boat across to the Det. Where a whole lot of nothing awaits you.

Actually, that’s a lie. What awaits is a riverside sunset, spicy laarb gai, friendly cats, Mekong tubing and some seriously potent ‘happy cookies’. This is island life, guys. It’s super chill and ridiculously relaxing, until those pesky piranhas come out to play…true story. Read this if you want to know more.
