‘Travel Good’ has been a long time coming; a project that is close to both our hearts and our passports. So to say that we’re excited, is an understatement. Last year Cathay Pacific contacted us with a game plan, they wanted to put their #lifewelltravelled ethos to good use, and support the work of a local NGO trying to make a difference in the tourism industry. That NGO was iDiscover.

In a nutshell, the iDiscover team design travel apps and walking maps. But really, it’s so much more than that. They work with locals to create real “off the beaten track” travel experiences that give back to communities and work towards preserving local heritage and culture. Win-win, if we ever heard one.

Normally, we aren’t big on tours. We’re more of a hit the back alleys, get a little lost and hope for the best kinda travellers. But this app doesn’t involve following a leader named Dave or uncompromising schedules – you just get to read, wander, and make as many pork bun pit stops as you feel necessary.

Using the app, we found ourselves eating snake soup with a Chinese medicine expert in Hong Kong; doubled over in a Balinese laughing yoga class; and getting super multicultural going from mosque to temple to shrine in downtown Yangon.

The best thing about this project was working with like minds in iDiscover and Cathay Pacific. ‘Travel Good’ is all about travelling responsibly, consciously and with heart. Because, while the world is a big place, it’s places and people are not forever – so we’ve got to do our bit to look after it.
